An LED source shines light through the particulate in a stack and the variation in the amount of transmitted light is measured by a receiver mounted on the opposite side of the stack. The variation derives from temporal distributions of particulate which attenuates the light beam. The instrument calculates the dynamic response (ratio of light variation to light intensity) which, for appropriate applications, is proportional to dust concentration and can be calculated in mg/m3 by reference to an iso-kinetic or gravimetric test.
ENVEA’s DynamicOpacity™ instruments are available with a full range of quality assurance features and options, some of which are unique and patented by the company:
- Automatic electronic Opacity zero and span checks performed by varying the light intensity in the transmitter head.
- Automatic electronic DynamicOpacity™ zero and span checks, to test scintillation count at zero and full scale.
- Optional hand held external Electronic Audit Unit for zero and linearity checks
- Comms check, to test control unit correctly communicating with and reading dynamic opacity readings from the sensor(s).
