In January 2019, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) of India launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). It’s been designed to prepare action plans with an objective to reduce PM2.5 pollution by 20–30% by 2024 as compared to 2017, in 122 million plus cities.

The NCAP designated 122 cities as non-attainment from 21 states and 2 union territories (Chandigarh and Delhi, based on the ambient monitoring data from the network operated by CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board).

In practice, cities are declared non-attainment if over a 5-year period they consistently do not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for PM10 (Particulate matter that is 10 microns or less in diameter) or NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide).

In Maharashtra, 18 cities including Pune and Mumbai are under NCAP with air quality levels of
PM2.5 and PM10 having crossed national safety standards.

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has therefore decided to expand the network of Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS). This initiative is aimed at providing accurate real-time data of pollution levels in order to implement national policies strictly.

ENVEA India has been selected by MPCB upon tender for providing a turnkey solution including 47 CAAQMS stations for the continuous measurement of SO2, NOx, NH3, CO, O3, VOC, PM10 & PM2.5, meteorological parameters and service.

The air quality monitoring stations, equipped with latest generation analyzers from ENVEA including low power consumption e-Series instruments, will come with shelter, A/C and data acquisition systems (e-Sam/XR®).
All stations will be connected to a central data server at MPCB head office in Mumbai. The delivery will span over a 4 month period.
